Frequency Is Not Faithfulness

Why Sola Veritas is moving to once a week

Beginning next month, Sola Veritas moves to once a week.

Before anything else, two words: “thank you.”

What began in May 2025 as a 30-day challenge to write something daily continued through the summer.

Later, I moved to three times a week, then again to Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You prayed for me, and you encouraged me during that time of transition. I read your comments online and welcomed your encouragement in person. It’s been amazing.

I’m not going anywhere. I plan to continue using this platform. It’s been a wonderfully cathartic outlet for me.

There are numerous reasons for this change, not the least of which is that my professional workload is increasing.

Last Friday, I preached in a prison here in Arizona, something I hadn’t done in years. I hope to do more. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, I preached all five of our weekend services. Man, I enjoyed every minute of that time sharing God’s Word at my home church.

As some of you are aware, in addition to preaching and teaching, I work with Jason Whitlock on Fearless/Harmony, where I provide weekly commentary on that platform. That hasn’t stopped. In fact, it’s increasing. I usually receive the topics around 6:00 a.m., which allows me a few hours of research before jumping on his show at 8:30 or 9:00 a.m., Arizona time. The benefit of being on Arizona time is my availability to interact with his audience long before the day gets moving here in the Valley of the Sun.

Alongside Fearless, I write and edit for Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center. The Freedom Center is a Christian public policy and resource center equipping Christians to think biblically about a wide range of social, cultural, and political issues. Lately, my responsibilities have placed a greater demand on my early morning hours, time I would usually commit to Substack.

In the days ahead, I have projects, ministry opportunities, speaking engagements, and long-form writing that I’ll need to prioritize.

With all of this, I wrestled with what to do as transitions are not easy for me. Unfortunately, slowing down has never been my instinct. When good work comes across my desk, I take it, and I have been taking it for a long time. Saying no for me is rare.

At some level, I began to view frequency as success. I had to honestly think through whether reducing my time here was failure. Part of the reason I felt that way is the obligation I have to provide rich content for the audience that has gathered here, and especially for those of you who have supported this endeavor financially. I concluded that the reallocation of my time was not failure but faithfulness.

And then there’s Tomeka. I have always been able to disappear into work, and I liked what other people’s approval did for me. That’s what changed. Now, I can feel it in my bones when I’m reaching a break point. It used to be easy to ignore, and I’d risk bigger problems down the road.

What this transition has helped me to recognize is the importance of making room for her. Right? Tomeka is a big reason why I have made so many of the decisions I’ve made lately. She’s the biggest reason for our transition to Arizona and a slower pace to begin with.

What This Means

Beginning on Monday, August 10^th, paid subscribers will receive a weekly podcast here, roughly 30 minutes covering the week’s events, updates on the work, and specific prayer requests. This will be the closest look into what I’m thinking and what I’m being asked to carry into the week.

For those of you who are free subscribers, you’ll receive a weekly article with the same cultural commentary you’ve come to expect, serving the reason you followed me here in the first place.
